Position Description:

The College of Social and Applied Human Sciences (CSAHS), University of Guelph, is seeking applications for a Canada Research Chair, Tier 2, in Integrating Social Science into One Health. The successful candidate will be appointable to a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor position in a CSAHS Department: Family Relations and Applied Nutrition; Geography, Environment and Geomatics; Political Science; Psychology; Sociology and Anthropology.

Exceptional emerging scholars whose research extends into social sciences transdisciplinary scholarship examining critical problems at the confluence of human, animal, and environmental health are invited to apply for this position. We are particularly interested in applicants whose scholarship is grounded in and/or employs innovative mixed methods and community-engaged research. Areas of research focus might include, but are not limited to, Indigenous land relationships, well-being and culture, water, food, and land issues, the implications of climate change on traditional plant/animal foods and livelihoods, and the knowledge-policy-practice interface. Geographical area of expertise is open, which can be in Canada and/or beyond, and we encourage applicants who conduct community-based research with Indigenous communities, broadly and globally defined, to apply for this position.

Eligible applicants for the position must hold a doctoral degree in a disciplinary or interdisciplinary field related to the College's areas of specialization and must demonstrate research excellence and productivity, including the attainment of external grant funding. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a productive, collaborative One Health research program that addresses intersections among human, animal, and environmental health. While this is primarily a research appointment, the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to One Health curriculum development at university level and teach courses and supervise graduate students in their department, or across departments.

The successful candidate will contribute to innovative, multidisciplinary One Health research on campus. The CRC Tier 2 will be expected to work with other One Health researchers on campus, drawing on and building research strengths and capacity, and aligning with the University Strategic Research Plan and the College of Social and Applied Human Sciences Strategic Plan.

Eligibility for a Tier 2 Chair requires that applicants are exceptional emerging scholars and are less than 10 years since earning their highest degree at the time of nomination. Nonetheless, applicants who are more than 10 years from having earned their highest degree, where career breaks exist, such as parental or extended sick leave, clinical training, or other exceptional circumstances, may have their eligibility assessed through the program’s Tier 2 justification process. This position is contingent upon final approval by the CRC Secretariat. Salary is negotiable and commensurate with experience and qualifications.
