Position Description:

The Department of Pathobiology at the University of Guelph invites applications for a tenure-track position in Veterinary Anatomic Pathology at the Assistant or Associate Professor level.

Applicants must have a DVM or equivalent degree, completed a doctoral degree, have strong research training, be eligible for licensure by the College of Veterinarians of Ontario, and be eligible for phase II board certification or be board-certified by the American or European Colleges of Veterinary Pathologists. Preference will be given to the candidates who are already board-certified. Candidates must be eligible for licensure by the College of Veterinarians of Ontario.

This position includes significant teaching and diagnostic responsibilities, and as such the incumbent should have strong skills in anatomic pathology and be an effective teacher in various aspects of anatomic pathology, such as in rounds, small seminars, and/or traditional lecture and laboratory formats at the BSc/DVM and graduate levels. In addition, the successful candidate will supervise and contribute to the applied pathology training of graduate students. The incumbent will also contribute to the diagnostic pathology service of the Department of Pathobiology.

The new faculty is expected to develop an extramurally-funded research program suitable for graduate education at the PhD level. Teaching and administrative duties will be adjusted in the first two years to permit the successful candidate to establish, sustain, and grow their research program.

The new faculty member is expected to have excellent written and oral communication skills as well as the ability to work effectively and consult with graduate students and faculty in other departments/units, and with pathologists and staff in the Animal Health Laboratory.

The Department of Pathobiology has recognized strengths in anatomic, clinical, and comparative pathology, immunology, microbiology, and veterinary infectious diseases. The Department, together with the Animal Health Laboratory, has a state-of-the-art 13 000 square meter building housing well-equipped modern research and diagnostic laboratories. The College has a large veterinary teaching hospital (Health Sciences Centre), the Animal Cancer Centre and the Centre for Public Health and Zoonoses. In addition, researchers have access to nearby research stations suitable for conducting studies in a variety of domestic animals, on-campus housing for laboratory and production animals, and a wildlife research field station in Algonquin provincial park.
