Simone Ianniello, a fourth year Bachelor of Commerce student majoring in Food and Agricultural Business has been presented with the Co-op Student of the Year Award in the Bachelor of Commers, Arts and Science, and Arts programs on March 2. Congratulations, Simone! Each year the University of Guelph honours five co-op students and two co-op employers for outstanding quality and achievement at the University of Guelph Co-op Awards Reception.
Three post-secondary students received Ontario Federation (OFA) of Agriculture’s 80th anniversary bursary on November 22nd, 2016, at the organization’s annual general meeting.
The Department would like to congratulate Professor Alfons Weersink for being awarded the 2016 OAC Alumni Association Distinguished Teaching Award. This award recognizes the effectiveness of OAC faculty in contributing to the education of OAC students and for the faculty member's commitment to learning by OAC students. A member of the department since 1989, Alfons has proven himself an exceptional instructor and mentor. He has taught over 20 different courses to over 3500 aggies.
The Canadian Agricultural Economics Society hosted an awards ceremony at their annual meeting to recognize and encourage excellence in agricultural economics and related fields. Several members of the FARE family were recognized for excellence in research. M.Sc. alumna Jessica Kelly won the CAES Outstanding Masters Thesis Award for her thesis "The Farm Share in Canada from 1997 to 2010: Identifying Trends in Value Distribution Along the Agri-Food Supply Chain" (Alfons Weersink was her advisor).
