We are a teaching-focused and research-intensive department in the College of Social and Applied Human Sciences. Our faculty have research and teaching expertise that covers the breadth of the discipline.

In our undergraduate teaching program, we offer majors and minors that allow students to cultivate specialized knowledge in areas such as environmental governance, physical geography, human geography and geomatics. There are approximately 300 students enrolled in the three majors offered by the Department: Geography, Earth Surface Science, and Environmental Geography.

Our graduate program, which normally has approximately 50 students in residence, offers degrees at the Master's and Doctoral levels. It focuses strongly on the development of knowledge, skills and expertise in areas that reflect the strengths of the faculty. Students conduct basic and applied research across Canada and around the world.
