Masters Program
Introduction
The Masters program offers opportunities for research in the areas of socio-economic spaces and change, environmental management and governance, and biophysical systems and processes. The program is distinctive in that it emphasizes interrelationships among biophysical and human systems. A unifying theme is the emphasis on integration and evaluation. Scales of inquiry range from the local to the global, in both developed and developing countries.
Admission Standards
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered:
- a four-year honours baccalaureate or equivalent;
- a minimum average of 75% (B) during the final two years of undergraduate study.
Program Requirements (For students entering F11 or later)
MA/MSc with thesis
- Thesis
- Research Methods (GEOG*6090 and Geog*6091)
- Three other courses
- all of which must be from Geography, except with advisory committee approval
- for MA students, at least 2 social science courses, and for MSc students, at least 2 natural science courses.
MA/MSc by coursework and project
- Research Project (GEOG*6180)
- Research Methods (GEOG*6090 and Geog*6091)
- Five other courses
- at least 4 from Geography, except with advisory committee approval
- for MA students, at least 3 social science courses, and for MSc students, at least 3 natural science courses.
Geography/Collaborative International Development Shared MA and MSc Programs
- Research Methods (GEOG*6090 and GEOG*6091)
- CIDS requirements
- Thesis and one other Geography course, or Research Project (GEOG*6180) and one other Geography course
Residency Requirement and Program Duration
Students must complete the equivalent of at least 2 semesters of full-time study and research. Students are expected to complete the MA/MSc program within 5 semesters.
