Findings

The GIS MCE model developed in this study was able to combine all the variables outlined in Objective 1. The GIS model in this report was run with four different scenarios, which included a basic, control, economic, and environmental scenario. Running four different scenarios in the MCE model allowed for the best integrative approach to siting BMP detention ponds at catchment scale. The environmental and economic scenarios allowed for different variables to take higher precedence in order to site detention ponds based on varying goals. Each of the four scenarios produced 3,781 sites with varying degrees of suitability above 0 percent, and 164,962 sites with 0 percent suitability. Thus, each scenario displayed 3.4 km2 of suitable land within the 151.88 km2 study area boundary. Of the 3,781 sites above 0 percent suitability, the most significant sites are within the ranges of 60 to 70 percent suitability, 70 to 80 percent suitability, and greater than 80 percent suitability. The sites within these highlighted ranges were examined within the following sections.
