Calvert et al. (2014) and Calvert & Mabee (2014) used the following source layers to produce the ‘Land Cover’ and ‘Yield Map’ layers that were implemented in this research project.
Research Project Layers
These layers were implemented in the development of the models and were used to generate supply-cost curves. The ‘Cities’, ‘Land Cover’ and ‘Yield Map’ layers were used as illustrated in Figure 3 to generate the “Zone” and “Value” fields required by the ‘Zonal Statistics’ tool. This gave the yield accumulated at different distances from each of the cities. Similarly, NA took these same layers in addition to the ‘Road Network’ layer (Table 3) to obtain optimal routes through which the highest yield can be obtained. Different algorithms were applied such as the Dijkstra’s algorithm implemented by Sosa et al. (2015) and Tittmann et al. (2010). This determined the best roads for the extracted biomass to be taken to bio-refineries in the cities.
