Women's Campus Safety Initiatives
2008-2009 WCSI Projects
The 2008/09 Women's Campus Safety Initiatives Committee was comprised
of representatives from:
- Aboriginal Students Association
- Campus Community Police and Fire Prevention Services
- Central Student Association
- Centre for Students with Disabilities
- Faculty Association
- Guelph Resource Centre for Gender Empowerment and Diversity
- Human Rights and Equity Office
- Interhall Council
- Munford Centre
- Professional Staff Association
- Student Housing
- Wellness Centre
The Committee funded 8 initiatives this year. Grant recipients aimed to fulfil one or more of the following objectives: to improve the safety of women studying, working and living on campus; to educate and raise awareness about women's issues; to provide ongoing support to university constituents who play an integral role in improving the campus climate for women and women's safety; and to provide skill based training for women. Based on the grant criteria, the Committee identified the the following groups as particularly in need of support: women who study or work outside regular business hours; women in non traditional fields; women who experience the multiple jeopardies of heterosexism, racism and ableism.
The Committee has provided funding to the following organizations for the initiatives described below:
