Women's Campus Safety Initiatives
2010-2011 WCSI Projects
The 2010-11 Women's Campus Safety Initiatives Committee was comprised
of representatives from:
- Aboriginal Students Association
- Campus Community Police and Fire Prevention Services
- Central Student Association
- Centre for Students with Disabilities
- Human Rights and Equity Office
- Interhall Council
- Munford Centre
- Student Housing
- USWA
- Wellness Centre
The Committee funded 13 initiatives this year. Grant recipients aimed to fulfil one or more of the following objectives: to improve the safety of women studying, working and living on campus; to educate and raise awareness about women's issues; to provide ongoing support to university constituents who play an integral role in improving the campus climate for women and women's safety; and to provide skill based training for women.
The Committee provided funding to the following organizations for the initiatives described below:
Campus Community Police and Fire Prevention Services
- installation of emergency poles
- programming on drug-induced sexual assault
Campus SafeWalk
- purchase of safety equipment
CSA
- renovations to Student Help and Advocacy Centre
Child Care and Learning Centre
- installation of secure front entrance to the CCLC
Department of Animal and Poultry Science
- implementation of a safety audit
Family Housing
- phone in the Family Housing Community Centre
Guelph Resource Centre for Gender Equality and Diversity. Women of Colour Collective
- self defense workshop and purchase of resources
Health and Performance Centre
- lighting improvements to an accessible entrance of the Powell building
Ontario Veterinary College
- installation of security cameras
VDay Guelph
- Vday Campaign
Wellness Centre
- sexual assault awareness campaign
