University Research Chair in Tourism and Professor in the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management; Graduate Faculty, University of Waterloo; President of Travel and Tourism Research Association-Canada Chapter; and Editorial Review Board for Journal of Travel Research.

Brief biography/comments

Marion was in (the former East) Germany and came to Canada as a teenager, completing her secondary and undergraduate education in Stratford and at the University of Waterloo. Before joining the faculty of the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management as its Director in 2003, Marion’s career took her to numerous countries in North America and Europe in the pursuit of industry and government experience as well as an advanced education. She returned to Canada in 1988 to join the provincial government as its Senior Policy Advisor for Tourism before becoming a faculty member with Ryerson University’s School of Hospitality and Tourism Management.

Courses taught

Marion currently teaches courses on International Tourism and Marketing, both at the undergraduate and MBA levels, at the University of Guelph . She has delivered courses in Tourism Policy and Sustainable Tourism, as well as introductory and advanced research methodology.

Research areas of interest

Areas of research interests cover the planning, development and marketing of destinations with particular focus on heritage, ethnic and wellness tourism. She also has an interest in the travel trade and incentive travel as well as e-commerce.
