Structure
Viewing Software (e.g.
Rastop)
You may use molecular
modeling/viewing software to view structures discussed in class and/or
to prepare structure diagrams for your lab reports.
Rastop
and Rasmol are
popular molecular viewing programs.
Rastop
is a more user friendly version of the popular, well established
Rasmol
program so we recommend that you use Rastop for this course. Here
is a link to a RasTop tutorial.

Molecular
Structure Files
Molecular structure data files are available free from the Protein
Data Bank. You can download structure files
from that site, then view and manipulate them
using Rastop.
The PDB contains structures of
many of the proteins we'll discuss in MAD lectures. Protein Database ID numbers
will be provided so that you
can view these structures directly, using the array of viewing options
available on the PDB site.
You can also search the database
for structures
related to the lectures, your Literature Research Lab project and other topics...
