- Sept 23 - A newly-isolated bacterium has been named after the late Professor Terry J. Beveridge.
The bacterium is called Bacillus beverigei sp. This tribute from the scientific community honours Dr. Beveridge’s broad contributions, pioneer work and teaching in the realm of Geomicrobiology, with specific reference to his research on the formation of mineral phases by microorganisms.

- July 25 - Congratulations to Larry Peterson along with co-authors, Carol Peterson (University of Waterloo) and Lewis Melville who received the Lawson Medal from the Canadian Botanical Association for their book "Teaching Plant Anatomy Through Creative Laboratory Exercises". The Lawson Medal, the highest honour given by CBA, was awarded at the Plant Canada Meeting in Halifax on July 20, 2011.
