There are four very active undergraduate student associations in the department of Molecular and Cellular Biology:
Biochemistry - Botany (Plant Science) -
Molecular Biology & Genetics - Microbiology
See also CBS Student Council Website
Events and activities are highlighted below.
BIOCHEMISTRY Student Association
The Biochemistry Student Association (BiocSA) is a student organization established in 2008. Our aim is to create a stronger connection among biochemistry students at the University of Guelph. With such a large amount of students at the university, newer students may feel overwhelmed with the experience. BiocSA overcomes this by organizing seminars, academic activities, and social events. BiocSA staged a successful Orientation Week campaign, getting many first years involved. Events like this give students the chance to meet others in the same major and share experiences in research labs and classes. We like to get professors and grad students involved by talking about their research how they got into it. In the new year, 2011, the club is going to do another round of Biochemistry clothing orders, organize a Brewery Tour and some Professor Lecture events.
BiocSA invites all Biochemistry students (major or minor) to attend events and get involved with the club. Meetings are located in the New Science Complex, room 3310 every couple of weeks. These meetings and events are by no means mandatory, but they are usually highly educational, as well as very fun!

BOTANY-Plant Science Student Association
The Botany Club promotes learning about the most important kingdom on earth, Plantae. Our main goal is to expand and share with others our knowledge of the many often overlooked aspects of plants. We do this through guest speakers and discussion as well as our plant sale each semester and our annual College Royal exhibit. The Botany Club is a student run organization under the College of Biological Science. Members are informed of many plant- related events on and off campus along with events held directly by the club throughout the year. We meet monthly in the Science Complex Rm 4440 and have an occasional trip or tour. All who have an interest in plants are welcome to attend meetings and to join in on some fun events.

MBG Student Association
The goal of the Molecular Biology and Genetics Student Association (MBGSA) shall be to provide a representation of the student body. We organize and run events primarily for students enrolled in the Molecular Biology and Genetics major or minor at the University of Guelph, who are inherent members of the MBGSA. We also welcome other students of the College of Biological Science and the University of Guelph who are interested in molecular biology and genetics. Events run through the MBGSA should first and foremost provide a sense of union and camaraderie amongst students, regardless of stature or standing. We meet Tuesdays 5:30- 7 pm. In the forthcoming year we are planning a trip to Toronto to have a Guided tour at the structural Genomics Consortium. We hope to bring you distinguished guest speakers, and on the lighter side you can look forward to non-academic events such as a brewery tours and a N64 tournament night. On behalf of your executive MBGSA team we wish you all the best in the New Year.
Cheers!

The U of G Microbiology Club organizes fun events with a microbiology focus, such as trips to the local Sleeman and Wellington breweries, movie nights (recently, 'Osmosis Jones'), and humourous microbiology-themed T-shirts. This year we are also hoping to host a trip to the Ontario Science Centre, a microbiology trivia night at the Brass Taps, and more academically relevant events, as well. New members are always welcome!
