Genus Microchaetina van der Wulp, 1891

MICROCHAETINA van der Wulp, 1891: 212 (in key; full description in a subsequent fascicle, van der Wulp, 1891: 240). Type species: Microchaetina cinerea van der Wulp, 1891, by subsequent monotypy of van der Wulp, 1891: 241.
HYPENOMYIA Townsend, 1919c: 545 (junior homonym of Hypenomyia Grimshaw, 1901). Type species: Hypenomyia petiolata Townsend, 1919, by original designation.
STEVENIOPSIS Townsend, 1919c: 546. Type species: Steveniopsis sinuata Townsend, 1919, by original designation.
REINHARDIANA Arnaud, 1952: 58 (nomen novum for Hypenomyia Townsend, 1919).


cinerea van der Wulp, 1891.– Mexico, ?Florida (S&A, 1965), Arizona (CNC).
– Microchaetina cinerea van der Wulp, 1891: 241. Type data: syntypes, 2 males and 2 females (BMNH) (mention by Townsend, 1931a: 100, of "male Ht" is not regarded as a lectotype fixation because the specimen in question cannot be distinguished from among the 2 males in the type series). Type locality: Mexico, Sinaloa, Presidio de Mazatlán.

mexicana (Townsend, 1892).– Utah to Missouri, south to New Mexico and Texas, also Florida (S&A, 1965), California, Arizona, Montana (CNC).
– Rhinophora mexicana Townsend, 1892d: 168. Type data: syntypes, 6 males and 1 female (4 male syntypes in SEMK). Type locality: USA, New Mexico, Las Cruces.
– Microchaetina setifacies Reinhard, 1942b: 88. Type data: holotype male (CNC). Type locality: USA, Kansas, Manhattan.


petiolata (Townsend, 1919).– British Columbia, Oregon to Colorado, south to Mexico (S&A, 1965), California, Idaho, Wyoming, Texas (CNC).
– Hypenomyia petiolata Townsend, 1919c: 545. Type data: holotype female (USNM). Type locality: USA, Arizona, East Verde River, 4200 feet.


rubidiapex (Reinhard, 1942).– Washington to Wyoming, south to California and New Mexico (S&A, 1965), British Columbia (CNC).
