Potential GO Transit Disruption

October 20, 2011 - Campus Bulletin

Some GO Transit service may be affected by a possible strike this month.

If a labour disruption occurs, GO Train service is expected to continue to operate, but there will be no GO Bus service.

Community members who use GO Bus services are encouraged to check the GO Transit website frequently for updates and information, and to consider alternative arrangements such as other public transportation services or car pooling.

The following information provides some alternatives available to GO Transit riders in the event of a strike:

  • Thecannon.ca provides a free ride-share program through the classifieds section that is available to all community members.
  • Daily visitor parking will be available on a first-come, first-served basis in the visitor parking lots on campus. For more information about visitor parking lots and daily rates, visit the University of Guelph's parking website.
  • Transit alternatives, where available, could be used to commute to the city of Guelph. These include VIA Rail, ABOUTOWN, Greyhound and Guelph Transit. For specific route and transit information, contact:
    • VIA Rail or call 1-888-VIA-RAIL (1-888-842-7245) or
      TTY: 1-800-268-9503 (hearing impaired)
    • ABOUTOWN: www.aboutown.ca/northlink.php or call 1-888-666-5466
    • Greyhound: or call 1-800-661-TRIP (8747)
    • Guelph Transit: or call 519-822-1811 or TTY: 519-837-5731.

In the event of a labour disruption, GO Transit riders should monitor the GO website for updates and information, plan ahead and allow extra time to get to their destination.

To phone GO: 1-888-GET-ON-GO (1-800-438-66-46).
