Overview

The Department of Food, Agricultural and Resource Economics (FARE) is the most research-intensive department of its kind in Canada, and one of the most intensive in North America.

FARE’s activities are concentrated in four focus areas:

  • Economics of Food
  • International Trade & Development
  • Environmental and Resource Economics
  • Agricultural Policy and Regulation

Education

The Department offers undergraduate majors in three areas:

  • Food and Agricultural Business (FAB) (Bachelor of Commerce)
  • Agricultural Economics (Bachelor of Arts)
  • Environmental Economics and Policy (Bachelor of Science, Environment)

FARE has a Ph.D. program as well as both a thesis- and course-based M.Sc. program.  Specialities include Food and Agricultural Economics and Environmental and Resource Economics.

Research

FARE faculty publish routinely in leading agricultural and resource economics journals.  FARE faculty are engaged in provincial, national and international research projects focused on policy initiatives, the development of value chains and the economics of food safety and regulation.  For more information, visit FARE
