Elora Beef Research Centre

Elora Beef has about 200 production cows and replacement animals as well as an annual calf crop of 150 calves. There are usually more than 200 feed lot animals on site at any point in time. The handling facilities including cattle scales, hydraulic cattle squeezes and a hoof trimming tilt table. Calan Broadbent feeding head gates are used to control feed access for 180 animals in the cow-calf area. There are 130 acres of experimental pasture provided during the summer months.

Housing for feedlot animals include a conventional bedded pole barn (built in 2004) with capacity to control feed access for over 200 animals using Insentec. There are also Computerized Feed Mangers and a conventional bedded pole barn with capacity to control feed access for 48 animals using Calan head gates. The Elora Research Station is located about 5 km south of the town of Elora.
