Course Facilitator

 

Katherine is a course facilitator for the Ontario Rural Wastewater Centre. As a course facilitator, Katherine teaches various workshops, including the Onsite Sewage Systems 2012 workshop for various clients. She has over 10 years of teaching experience.

Katherine is currently an onsite sewage system specialist with R.J. Burnside & Associates, where her primary focus is the design and implementation of on-site wastewater treatment and soil absorption systems for large and small residential and non residentail systems. In this role, Katherine is responsible for preparing the design and supporting documentation for on-site wastewater treatment systems in rural areas where municipal wastewater services are not available. She also provides specialized sewage system design for nutrient removal requirements and specialized wastewater streams. Katherine has developed a thorough understanding of Part 8 of the Ontario Building Code as well as the Ministry of Environment Policy and Guidelines for On-Site Sewage Systems. Katherine also has extensive inspection experience. She has conducted numerous inspections of new system installations and also completed two major reinspection projects for various clients.

From 2005 - 2015 Katherine was the project coordinator of the Ontario Rural Wastewater Centre. As project coordinator at the ORWC, Katherine was responsible for coordinating, developing and delivering workshops, courses, and information sessions to various groups within the on-site wastewater community. She was also involved in research projects partnering with various government agencies and the School of Engineering and was responsible for the day to day operations at the Centre. She was a course facilitator for most of the courses delivered in the Guelph centre and has taught over 50 workshops over the course of her career at the University.

Katherine is an active member in the on-site community and was a member of the Board of Directors of the Ontario Onsite Wastewater Association. She is actively involved with OOWA and is a member of the goverance committee and the onsite technical committee.
