Welcome to the Ontario Rural Wastewater Centre!
Our Mission:
To promote environmentally sustainable development of rural
and unsewered areas through the effective use of wastewater
treatment and dispersal technologies.
Our Mandate:
To provide training, demonstration and applied research in
the areas of:
- residential on-site wastewater treatment, including septic
systems;
- small community wastewater treatment;
- nutrient and agri-food wastewater management.
OMAFRA has released a new version of the "Septic Smart! - Understanding Your Home's Septic System" booklet, with input from Terry Davidson at the ORWC in Ottawa. They have also published a second information booklet on advanced treatment systems called "Septic Smart! - Advanced Treatment Systems - Alternatives to Conventional". To complement the booklets, a DVD was also created starring Doug Joy and the ORWC demonstration centre in Guelph - go to www.ontario.ca/septic for more information or to see the video or download a copy of the booklets.
Check out the funded research opportunities (M.A.Sc. and M.Sc) at the ORWC! Positions funded are based out of the University of Guelph and the Alfred Campus. Contact Doug or Katherine for other funded research projects at the University of Guelph.
