Professor Knowles is a director, dramaturge, and playwright, editor of Modern Drama, an editor of Canadian Theatre Review, and a member of the editorial boards of Essays in Theatre/Études théâtrales and Canadian Literature.

Awards

The Ann Saddlemyer Prize for Outstanding Book on Canadian Drama and Theatre (2001).
Winner (on three occasions) of the annual Richard Plant Prize for outstanding essay on Canadian drama and theatre.
