Friday at 3:00pm, at the Arboretum, U of Guelph
SPEAKER: Lorraine Roy
TITLE: The Embroidered Tree: My journey with science and art
ABSTRACT: Lorraine Roy is a professional textile artist who holds a BSc in Agriculture, with a Major in Ornamental Horticulture from the University of Guelph. For over 25 years she has drawn from her science background to create thoughtful, credible works that speak to audiences from all backgrounds. Her work is featured in collections throughout Canada and abroad, including the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs. How does she find synergy in the seemingly disparate fields of science and art? Roy will speak about the scientific and aesthetic search for truth, and how trees and their seeds became the main vehicles for her unique imagery. She will illustrate the journey with images and real works from her tree and seed-inspired collections.
