BSc. (Agr.)

The emerging global bioeconomy will be dependent upon innovation and excellence in applied plant sciences and agriculture. The CHATS degree offers students excellent training in agricultural and applied plant sciences that has been a tradition in the Ontario Agricultural College since 1874. The degree provides students the tools necessary for opportunities in plant related agriculture, urban and rural horticulture and the emerging plant-based bioeconomy.
This 4-year honours program challenges students who have an interest in the applied plant sciences by exposing them to fundamental plant biology from the cellular to whole plant level in agronomic, ornamental and food crops as well as production methods and associated environmental issues. Faculty bring their research expertise to courses related to plant breeding, physiology, production, and biotechnology thus providing students with the most current and relevant information. The CHATS major is a flexible program that allows students to get a specialized education, but also allows them to develop their individual skills and strengths in either crops, horticulture or turfgrass science.
