Studying plant biology at the University of Guelph has allowed me to take a diverse array of courses in the plant sciences, ranging from anatomy, physiology and horticulture, to molecular biology and genetics. It is this range of courses, as well as the opportunities to interact with professors directly and carry out independent research projects, that has given me a solid foundation in plant biology and opened up doors for many possible career paths.

Having grown up on a seed farm, I have always been curious about the mechanisms involved in a plants life cycle and in my mind there was never really any option other than Guelph. UofG has some of the best resources, researchers and professors in the field. I now have a deep understanding of the mechanisms that are so vital to life on this planet. One of my most beneficial experiences was conducting a research project where I gained tools that will be of immeasurable valuable in my future, especially in graduate work. The Plant Science program at Guelph is an excellent option.

I choose the University of Guelph for its expertise in agriculture and plant research, and because it is a friendly medium-size campus. First-year courses are general but throughout the years my course selection became much more specialized to various aspects of plants, and I enjoyed the low student/faculty ratios in these classes. In my third year, I did a work-study term where I assisted in research on nitrogen-efficient growth in rice. There are many interesting sites to visit on campus as wells as a number of clubs to join such as the Botany club.
