What is a podcast?

A Podcast is a series of audio recordings, usually in mp3 format, that you can access and listen to in a few different ways.

The simplest way is to click and play a recording directly, and listen to it on your desktop computer. You can also "right-click" on the "Download mp3" link and choose "save file as...". The file will download to your computer, and you can listen to it later.

A third way you can listen to a podcast is to subscribe to it using a piece of software installed on your computer that can handle podcast subscriptions. A good example of this type of software is iTunes. The main benefit to subscribing to a podcast is that in the event a new recording is added to the podcast, your software will automatically detect it and download it for you.

Do I need an iPod to listen?

Not at all. You can listen to podcasts right on your computer, by clicking on the file. Or, you can download the audio MP3 files and transfer them into any device that will play MP3 files.
