Latin American politics, processes of democratization, comparative public policy, citizenship studies, environmental politics and policy, social movements, civil-military relations, North American security relations, and the politics of sexual minority rights.
Current Project: 

Professor Díez is currently working on a comparative research programme, funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), on the expansion of gay and lesbian rights in Argentina, Chile, Mexico and Uruguay. The main research question guiding this programme of research relates to the factors that account for the variance in the expansion of these rights in Latin America
