Lincoln Alexander Scholarship
2010-2011 Recipients

Eddie Kim
Cameron Heights Collegiate Institute
Kitchener, Ontario
Eddie has been impressing judges at science fairs since
Grade 8. He has presented projects on computational
probability, microbiology, genetic algorithms and
environmental toxicology. He was a medal winner
many times both locally and nationally and launched a
school club to support participation in science events.
He also helped to found Math Mania, a math
enrichment program to teach elementary school
students to think “outside the box”, and Computer
Craze, for middle school students.
Eddie’s commitment to sharing his passion for science and his leadership in
so many areas make him an ideal candidate for a University of Guelph
Lincoln Alexander Chancellor’s Scholarship.

Li (Danny) Liang
Newtonbrook Secondary School
Toronto, Ontario
Danny was involved in many aspects of student life,
but it was his leadership of the school's environment
club that really made a mark. He helped the school
earn certification as an Eco-School and received an
award for outstanding environmental leadership.
Danny placed first in several national academic
competitions, and his leadership of a group of students
who conducted research at the Hospital for Sick
Children to assess the effectiveness of combination
treatments involving herbal compounds on pancreatic
cancer cells helped the group take fifth place in the Greater Toronto Area
Sanofi-Aventis BioTalent Challenge.
Today Danny is recognized as a recipient of a University of Guelph Lincoln
Alexander Chancellor's Scholarship.

Sofia Oke
Centennial Collegiate and Vocational Institute
Guelph, Ontario
Sofia has always been curious about the world around
her, but it was her empathy for a friend with breast
cancer that encouraged her and a partner to
investigate ways to reduce the side effects of
chemotherapy. Their research won them awards at
both regional and national science competitions.
On top of the many hours Sofia committed to lab
research, she found time to volunteer in the
community and play an active role in activities at
school.
Sofia is a most deserving recipient of a University of Guelph Lincoln
Alexander Chancellor’s Scholarship.
