Vice President (Research)
The University of Guelph invites applications, nominations and expressions of interest in the position of Vice-President (Research), with the appointment to be effective fall 2008 or as soon thereafter as possible.
The University of Guelph, with its main campus located in Guelph, Ontario, less than an hour from Metropolitan Toronto, has achieved prominence in Canada and around the world as a research-intensive and learner-centred university. Enrolment includes approximately 19,500 students in undergraduate and diploma programs across five campuses, more than 2,000 graduate students and more than 56,000 registrants in open learning activities. The University offers 11 undergraduate and 45 graduate degree programs. With 850 full-time faculty and approximately 5,000 full-time and part- time staff, Guelph has an annual operating budget of some $450 million.
As one of the most research-intensive universities in Canada, the University of Guelph is internationally renowned for its broad spectrum of research. It receives more than $145 million annually in research funding and has a long history of conducting innovative research with partners at other universities, in government and in the private sector, as well as at its 12 research stations located across the province. The University has been transferring technologies to the marketplace for over a century and plays a key role in agricultural and life sciences research and training through its forward- thinking partnership with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. Reporting to the President, the successful candidate will be an innovative and distinguished leader with exceptional academic and research achievements and a record of building collaborative teams and partnering effectively with other educational institutions, government, communities and industry. As a member of the President's management group, the Vice-President (Research) will contribute to the development of institutional strategy and policy. Candidates will have a strong record of achievement in a complex research environment and possess the credibility to function successfully at all levels of the University.
