IX--Scholarships and Other Awards, Entrance Awards for Bachelor of Science in Agriculture

Entrance Scholarships - B.SC.(Agr.)

Harold A. Kopas Memorial Entrance Award

The award is restricted to students who have completed their secondary school education within the County of Wellington or Waterloo Region. Apply by submitting a completed Need Assessment Form to Student Financial Services by April 1. Students who have applied to the University for admission will receive a Need Assessment Form for Entrance Awards from the University early in the calendar year. [E0152]

Qualification(s): Student who has demonstrated financial need, together with a minimum average of 70% entering the B.SC.(Agr.) program. Subsequent payments are dependent on the student maintaining a 70% cumulative average, demonstrating continuing financial need and continuing in the B.SC.(Agr.) or D.V.M. program.

Amount: One award of $6,200 ($2,000 in year 1 and $1,400 annually for 3 years)

Amos & William Lowe Memorial Scholarship

Endowed by the late William B. Lowe of Fort Francis, Ontario. Preference will be given first to eligible students from the District of Rainy River, then from the District of Kenora or Thunder Bay, and finally from the remaining Districts of Northern Ontario. Application not required. [E0158]

Qualification(s): Student entering any of the undergraduate degree programs of the Ontario Agricultural College.

Amount: Two awards of $1,250 paid in two installments of $625

Robert Thompson Scholarship

Established in memory of the late Robert Thompson. Application not required. [E0283]

Qualification(s): Student of high academic standing entering the first semester of the B.SC.(Agr.) program

Amount: Two awards of $400

Entrance Access Awards - B.SC.(Agr.)

Gord Bennett Memorial and O.A.C.'43 Class Bursary

The family and friends of R. Gordon Bennett, O.A.C.'43, a former Deputy Minister of Agriculture, with the assistance of the Ontario government's OSOTF program, have created a this bursary. Apply by letter with a completed Need Assessment Form to Student Financial Services by April 1. Students who have applied to the University for admission will receive a Need Assessment Form for Entrance Awards from the University early in the calendar year. ACCESS AWARD [E3515]

Qualification(s): O.A.C. student with demonstrated financial need entering the Diploma, B.SC.(Agr.), or B.Comm., Agricultural Business major, programs. Preference will be given to students whose primary family occupation is farming. Additionally, students must meet the government-mandated terms for receipt of an OSOTF award (see General Statements on Awards).

Amount: One award of $1,000

Fred Hindle Bursary

Awarded in memory of Fred Hindle, O.A.C.'38, a long-time generous supporter of his Alma Mater, who at the time of his death, wanted future students to have the same opportunity for an education as he had received. This bursary is awarded with the assistance of the Ontario government's OSOTF program. This bursary is dependent on continued demonstration of financial need and successful completion of study to advance into the next year. Apply with a completed Need Assessment Form to Student Financial Services by April 1. Students who have applied to the University for admission will receive a Need Assessment Form for Entrance Awards from the University early in the calendar year. ACCESS AWARD [E3500]

Qualification(s): An entering O.A.C. degree student who has demonstrated financial need. Additionally, students must meet the government-mandated terms for receipt of an OSOTF award (see General Statements on Awards).

Amount: One award of $6,000 ($1,500 annually for 4 years)

Robert, Louis and Helen Shaw Memorial Degree Scholarships

Established by the Shaw Scholarship Committee with the assistance of the Ontario government's OSOTF program. Apply by letter, including a summary of local agricultural activities and a completed Need Assessment Form, to Student Financial Services by September 30. ACCESS AWARD [E4520]

Qualification(s): Students registered in the B.A.Sc, B.Comm. in Agricultural Business, B.SC.(Agr.) or D.V.M. programs studying agriculture, horticulture, equine studies, food and nutrition or veterinary sciences with demonstrated financial need, a 70% cumulative average and involvement in local agricultural activities. Preference will be given to first year students from Peterborough County. Additionally, students must meet the government-mandated terms for receipt of an OSOTF award (see General Statements on Awards).

Amount: A number of awards of $1,000
