Applying to Guelph

Thank you for choosing to apply to a graduate program at the University of Guelph. The following information will guide you through the application process and assist you with the online application process. International students who are applying from outside Canada should apply at least six to nine months in advance of the semester to which they wish to apply.

1. Investigate Program Options

  • review our list of graduate programs and select a program
  • visit the department website and review the various degree requirements, research, and faculty members

2. Review Admission Requirements & Deadlines

3. Make Contact with Your Department

  • do you have any questions about your program? if so please contact department's graduate secretary for more information
  • if you are interested in working with a specific advisor, contact the advisor to discuss potential research opportunities

4. Complete the English as a Second Language test

5. Apply

  • students applying to a graduate program at the University of Guelph are required to apply online
  • the online application will take approximately 40-60 minutes
  • the application fee for most graduate programs is $100 (The MBA , MA (Leadership) application fee is $150) and is payable to the OUAC
  • the non refundable application payment can be made by: Internet or telephone bill payment services, credit card (Visa or Master Card), cheque or money order
  • please ensure that you have access to a printer as you will be asked to print several documents including a copy of the application and the referee forms (you may save your application and resume activity at a later date)

6. Collect Required Documents

  • mail the required documents to yourself (documents must be sealed in an official envelope and signed across the flap by the issuing institution or referee)
  • ensure you submit a copy of your application with your application package
  • two or three letters of reference (depending on program review specific admission requirements)
  • any program specific requirements (i.e. a porfolio, essays, etc)
  • English as a Second Language score/results

7. Mail your Package Directly to the Department

  • assemble the required documents in a single package, and mail it directly to the department: Graduate Secretary, Name of the Building, Name of Department, University of Guelph, Guelph, ON N1G 2W1 (department contact information can be found on the department's website).
  • you need to complete a separate package for each of the programs you are applying to ( i.e. if you are applying to three programs you will need to mail three separate packages directly to the program)
