Patricia Folkins, a registered Patent Agent in both Canada and the US, will provide an overview of the patent process by defining intellectual property (IP), discussing what to do if a researcher suspects s/he has created new IP, and reviewing types of patents and other IP protection. This seminar will address why researchers should care about patents, and the costs, timelines and benefits associated with patenting.
