Program

Discovery Grants - Early Career Researchers ONLY

Description

NSERC grantees who have received the last installment of their active Discovery Grant in April, 2017 and who were classified as Early Career Researchers (ECR) at the time of their award may be eligible to extend their grant by one year, with funds. Grantees who take advantage of this option will receive an additional installment at their current level of funding. The objective is to provide additional time and resources to early career researchers to establish their research program and career.

Since you meet the initial criteria mentioned above you can request the extension with funds by sending an email to coord@nserc-crsng.gc.ca by August 1, 2017. In your email you must confirm that you will be able to use the funds for your research program. We recommend that you verify the balance of your account and ensure that the remaining and new funds can be used before the end of the grant. NSERC may request additional information on the use of funds, as required. If your account balance, as of March 31, 2017, was greater than 85% of the amount of your last installment and you do not need the additional funds, you can benefit from the one year automatic extension for use of funds available to all discovery grant holders.

If you do not wish to request the extension with funds for early career researchers but would like to apply for a Discovery Grant in the 2018 competition you must submit a Notification of Intent to Apply by August 1, 2017, 8 p.m. (ET). Refer to the Memo to Potential Applicants for details.
