The purpose of this funding opportunity is to support teams of researchers and knowledge users to produce knowledge syntheses and scoping reviews that will contribute to the use of synthesized evidence in decision-making and practice.
The objective of the New Investigator Salary Award program is to provide outstanding new investigators with the opportunity to develop and demonstrate their independence in initiating and conducting health research through provision of a contribution to their salary.
A new investigator is defined as a researcher who has held a full time research appointment (e.g., faculty appointment providing eligibility to apply for grants and/or supervise trainees), for a period of 0 to 60 months as of the competition deadline.
This Funding Opportunity is a component of the Canadian Epigenetics, Environment and Health Research Consortium (CEEHRC), one of CIHR's Roadmap Signature Initiatives. This multi-agency initiative is led by CIHR, with a number of dedicated funding opportunities planned over the next several years.
- New Common CV - CIHR will only accept applications with the new common CV as of September, 2012. Approximately 90% of the information in the old common CV accounts have been migrated over to the new common CV server. While there are still a number of glitches and irritations that the communication experts at CIHR are trying to fix, every potential applicant must now move access their CV modules to do an update.
CIHR would like to thank Canada’s health research community for taking the time to review and provide feedback on the proposed changes to CIHR’s Open Suite of Programs and peer review system. Through letters, emails, feedback forms, an on-line discussion forum, and face-to-face discussions, CIHR has received a wide range of feedback reflecting the varied perspectives of the Canadian health research community. The following is an update on the status of the reforms:
Please see the notice below, sent from CIHR, regarding CCV renewal issues.
Over the last week, we have been able to make considerable progress in addressing the implementation issues users encountered:

Priority Announcements offer additional sources of funding for highly rated applications that are relevant to specific research priority areas or CIHR Institute mandates. Applications are submitted through the Fall 2012 Open Operating Grant: 2012-2013 funding opportunity.
The specific objective of the Operating Grant Priority Announcement (Specific Research Areas) is to offer additional sources of funding for highly rated applications that are relevant to specific CIHR research priority areas and mandates.
The CIHR Open Operating Grant Program (OOGP) provides operating funds to support research proposals in all areas of health research including randomized controlled trials. A randomized controlled trial (RCT) is an experiment in which investigators randomly assign eligible human research participants or other units of study (e.g., classrooms, clinics, playgrounds) into groups to receive or not receive one or more interventions that are being compared. The results are analyzed by comparing outcomes in the groups.
Canadian Institutes of Health Research Team Grant : Terry Fox New Frontiers Program in Cancer (2012-2013)
The objective of the Terry Fox New Frontiers Program Project (Terry Fox New Frontiers) Grant funding opportunity is to support Canadian research programs in cancer that explore new frontiers in cure-oriented research (i.e., breakthrough and transformative biomedical/translational research providing new knowledge which may form the basis for innovative cancer diagnosis and/or treatment).
