Dr. Cornelis (Kees) de Lange obtained his B. Sc. and M. Sc. in Animal Science from the Agricultural University in Wageningen, the Netherlands and a Ph.D. in swine nutrition from the University of Alberta. He worked in the commercial feed industry and applied swine nutrition research and accepted a faculty position in swine nutrition in the Department of Animal and Poultry Science at the U of G in 1994. His research focuses on nutrient utilization in growing-finishing pigs, dietary means to reduce the negative impact of pig production on the environment, improving pork meat quality and enhancing gut health and development in newly weaned piglets.  He served as pork research co-ordinator at the U of G from 2002 to 2009.

U of G Research Program Director (Plant) Dr. Mary Ruth McDonald

Dr. Mary Ruth McDonald

Dr. Mary Ruth McDonald  received an M.Sc. and Ph.D. from U. of  G.  in plant pathology. She worked as a pest management specialist, and later a research scientist, for OMAFRA, based at the Muck Crops Research Station in the Holland Marsh.  In 1997, she joined the University of Guelph, when the Horticultural Research Institute of Ontario became part of the Department of Plant Agriculture through the enhanced partnership. Mary Ruth conducts research on crop protection and integrated pest management of onions, carrots, and other crops with an emphasis is on disease forecasting and management, IPM, screening for resistance, and the interaction between plant nutrition and disease development. Mary Ruth is a member of the project management team developing irrigated vegetable production in the Upper West Region of Ghana.

New Online Application System

The OMAFRA – U of G Research Program has recently implemented new web-based software, called the Research Management System (RMS), for processing research applications and reporting on projects. You must register in the RMS before you can prepare an application.

Theme Information

There will be two Town Hall Information Sessions scheduled for the following dates in order to address any of your questions related to the Calls for LOI's. Research Program Directors will be attending to respond to inquiries:

  • Monday October 24, 9:30-11:00 OVC Lifetime Learning Centre, Room 1713
  • Thursday, October 27, 2:30-4:00, OVC Lifetime Learning Centre, Room 1713
