Jim Shute was a full-time faculty member at the University of Guelph for 36 years, spending the last 10 years of his career as Director of the Centre for International Programs where he had administrative responsibility for the university’s international relations and mission. He was made Professor Emeritus in 2001. His major interests have included human resource development, program evaluation, cross-cultural communication, international extension training and the internationalization of higher education, and he taught grad and undergrad courses in several of these areas.

He has worked as a consultant to CIDA, IDRC, CIMMYT, several NGOs and private sector companies. He has published 120 or so books, book chapters, technical reports, monographs and reviews, has been a visiting professor in the UK, Australia, New Zealand and Barbados and has worked in some 30 countries. He has been advisor to 70 MSc and PhD students and has continued serving on graduate committees in CDE and the Rural Studies PhD program. In 2003, he was awarded the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal.

Jim is happy to discuss research and other interests, especially international in nature, with grad students and to serve on the occasional Advisory Committee.
