The PhD
(RS) was established in 1994 as an interdisciplinary degree. SEDRD became the
home department of the PhD (RS) in 2006 and the degree remains
interdisciplinary with two fields of study: sustainable rural communities and
sustainable landscape systems. The PhD program has seventeen core faculty
members from Capacity Development & Extension, Rural Planning &
Development, and Landscape Architecture.
Applicants to the program are
encouraged to review the admissions requirements in the Graduate
Calendar. Applicants are strongly advised to be in communication with a
potential faculty advisor before applying. Once an applicant is considered to
have met eligibility criteria, a crucial step is the identification of a
suitable advisor and the guarantee of student funding. Applying without first
having communicated with a potential advisor is not recommended.
