Welcome to the Snowden Program

Don Snowden was a pioneer in Canadian and international participatory video. He had a passion for enabling communities to define their own needs and lead their own processes of social and environmental change. Snowden’s legacy includes his work with the National Film Board of Canada’s Challenge for Change series. The Snowden Program aims to create awareness, action and scholarship on the role of media in change processes in remote and rural areas of Canada and the world. The Snowden Program is located in the School of Environmental Design and Rural Development, University of Guelph.

Broadband for Participatory Development and Innovation

Digital Ontario Logo Broadband access and affordability is a priority for many rural and remote areas of the world. Capacity development enables rural and remote communities to use and lead the development of high-speed Internet services and innovations that include the use of participatory digital video, radio and conferencing for social and environmental change. The University of Guelph together with the Snowden Program collaborates with a range of partners to promote rural and remote broadband capacity development.
