Welcome to WISH, an online searchable bibliography of works on Women in Scottish History. Research on the history of Scottish women has expanded dramatically in the last decade, producing an ever-increasing number of articles, essay collections, monographs and editions of primary sources, and monographs. Women's History Scotland has organised conferences on a variety of aspects of women's experience, and has sponsored two collective works, Gender in Scottish History Since 1700 and The Biographical Dictionary of Scottish Women, both published by Edinburgh University Press in 2006.

WISH is intended to facilitate further research in the field by providing references to books and articles on women in Scottish history. You can search for works by author, title, period and/or specified subject keywords. Within the search results the following information is provided:

• standard bibliographical information
• whether the source is a primary source or not
• call number in the Tri-University system if the book is available there (for users at the Universities of Guelph, Waterloo, and Wilfrid Laurier and students in the Scottish Studies Program, University of Guelph)
• notes about the source

To keep WISH current, users are encouraged to submit references for inclusion to the editor, Elizabeth Ewan. Please also contact WISH if you spot errors in entries, so that these can be corrected.
