in the Great Lakes Basin

Source: AQUANEWS (Aquaculture Information Service), Dr. Richard Moccia

Dr. Richard Moccia: "Given the recent interest in the occurrence of Viral Hemorrhagic Septicemia Virus (VHSV) in the Great Lakes Basin, and the possible implications to farmed fish in Ontario and elsewhere, I am attaching 4 reference documents to provide you with a general overview of the disease, and some of the issues associated with it."

Documents to download:

VHSV F2905p19-23.pdf

VHSVRisksV3.pdf

viral_hemorrhagic_septicemia.pdf

vhs-factsheet[1small].pdf

"The documents are not exhaustive in any way, but they are intended to help you get a quick understanding of the virus which causes VHS, some of the clinical signs associated with VHS disease in trout, as well as a little bit of information to give global perspective.  If you farm fish in Ontario, I encourage you to read this stuff."

"We are currently discussing the possibility of having an aqua-industry information session on the subject at the University of Guelph. "

Check this website at a later date for further details (marie).
