I am a philosopher at the University of Guelph in Guelph, Ontario, Canada. My research deals with the problem of phenomenal consciousness, embodied cognition, and the thought of William James.

I am the editor of an introductory philosophy textbook called First Philosophy, and co-editor of the two-volume Broadview Anthology of Social and Political Thought.

I am presently (2007–2012) the Chair of the Department of Philosophy at Guelph.
