I was born in the English Lake District in 1969 and grew up in semi-rural Cheshire, in the North West of England. I took an undergraduate degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics at Pembroke College, Oxford, and then did a PhD in Philosophy at the University of Calgary.

After completing my doctorate I taught at the University of Calgary for two years, and then moved to the University of Guelph in 2000. I became a Canadian citizen (while remaining a British national) in 1999.

I am married to a Canadian epidemiologist, Carole Craig, and we have two sons, Jack and Max.

You can see more family photos than you can shake a stick at here and here. I also have a slideshow from a 2005 trip to Costa Rica. You can see my World66 maps here.
