Why Biochemistry?

Biochemistry is a relatively new field in science. It involves studies of carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, nucleotides, and other biomolecules. With such a broad range of study, one can see how biochemistry has played an important role in the many recent advances in the scientific world.

Careers that can be pursued with a biochemistry degree include:

    - Medical Research

    - Pharmaceutical product development

    - Quality control in biotechnology

    - Medical/Nursing school

At the University of Guelph a Co-Op program is offered. This allows students to participate in work-terms to experience different career options before they graduate. Although this is not the only option to become involved in the work field, it gives an edge to students wishing to gain more experience.
