The Australian Government has now accepted that Climate Change is occurring and that governments, business and the community should be developing responses to manage the variability we expect to occur in our climatic conditions. The Centre for Sustainable Regional Communities is calling for abstracts by 27 February from academics and practitioner for papers addressing the socio-economic impacts of climate change on regional communities. We will arrange for these papers to be refereed and presented at a conference on this topic to be held in Bendigo in the middle of 2006. Selected papers will be published in a book by the CSRC. Our aim with the conference and subsequent publications is to provide direction for the development of socio-economic strategies to cope with the regional impacts of climate change.
