8th Annual
Graduate Student Symposium
Monday April 30th, 2012
This year's one day symposium will feature a keynote address as well as many sessions featuring the work of graduate students. The day will conclude with a poster session and refreshments.
This year we are please to present Dr. Moshe Szyf as our plenary speaker:
Dr. Szyf is the James McGill professor of Pharmacology and Therapeutics at McGill University. He is an international leader in the field of epigenetics and was the first person to prove that cancer genes are silenced by DNA methylation, and not only by genetic mutations. His work focuses on epigenetics and human disease, like cancer, as well as epigenetics and behavior. His work on epigenetic markings associated with childhood trauma resulted in him being named Radio Canada’s Scientist of the Year in 2009. He has been featured on CBC’s Quirks and Quarks program.
This year's symposium will include a plenary session, social events and student-based symposia to showcase graduate student research taking place across the college. The sessions will provide the opportunity for students to present their research to a diverse audience of fellow CBS members from the Departments of Human Health & Nutritional Science, Molecular & Cellular Biology and Integrative Biology.
