Descendants of Philip FISCHER

Notes

1. Philip FISCHER

In 1835 the Philip Fischers with their three children emigrated to Upper Canada and settled first at Dundas.

In 1845 Philip obtained his Citizenship Papers. One had to be in the Country seven years before obtaining them. Philip waited ten. From this and other records, it looks as if one had to have citizenship before buying land. Early in 1846 Philip bought his farm near Strasburg.

Kitchener Land Registry Record for Waterloo Township
David Heistand's Tract

Feb. 3, 1846 Anthony Trautman sold exactly 100 acres in the east part of the David Heistand's Tract to Philip Fischer for Ð 225. (about $1100.)

In 1981 Sister Florence Kelly of the Sisters of Service asked Sister Trautman of the Sisters of Service, and the reply was, yes, that Anthony Trautman who sold the land was her ancestor.

Further checking showed that Anthony had inherited the hundred acres from his father, but for some reason preferred a nearby piece of land. For, on the same day he sold the hundred acres to Philip Fischer, he bought 83 acres in the same David Heistand's Block. A few days later, on Feb. 9, he sold a bit less than an acre from his 83 to Anton Wilhelm for a house lot, no doubt .
