It is possible that the Wilhelms, Dolls and Webers
travelled together to North America. Some evidence for this was
recently discovered in Anton Wilhelm's obituary. It states that
Anton emigrated to America in 1833, married Johanna Weber in
Buffalo N.Y. in 1835, then moved to Dundas, and later moved to Waterloo Co.
These families including the Fischers all originated from the same
region of Germany. It's reported in the Oensbach letter that
William Fischer who was born in 1834 and was baptisted in Baden.
William's obituary states he was a year old when he came to
Canada. It's conceivable that the Philip Fischers left
shortly after Williams baptism and met the Wilhelms in Buffalo.
Once in Canada both the Fischer and Wilhelm families moved to
Dundas, then later purchased farms within a mile or so from
each other. It's also possible that the four families travelled
together arriving in America in late 1834, spending the winter in
Buffalo, where Anton married before crossing the border to the
unknown. This hypothesis assumes that the 1833 date in Anton's
obituary is in error.
Are there other possible senarios?
In Canada John, George, and Joseph Fischer were born as
reported on th 1851 Canada census. Originally they resided in
Dundas Ontario and later moved to Waterloo County. Nothing is
known about the 10 year period between arriving in Canada and
purchasing the farm in Strasburg.
Any information regarding this 10 year period is most welcome.
