I grew up in Brazil where I studied at the Universidade de Sao Paulo. I have been in Guelph since 1988 where I completed my PhD in 1992. I joined the Department of Land Resource Science as a faculty member in 1994, which became the School of Environmental Sciences in 2009.

My activities here at the university include research and teaching. My research group includes several graduate and undergraduate students, and research associates. My main academic focus is in the exchange of greenhouse gases between agricultural fields and the atmosphere. This research has many practical implications such as determining if bioenergy from agricultural feedstock is really "green", and what farmers can do to reduce the environmental footprint of growing crops. When I am not busy at work, I enjoy spending time with my family.
