Professor, Department of Environmental Biology

Interests: Plant pathology, with emphasis of fungal plant pathogens.  Research interests include biology and ecology of plant pathogens, plant-microbe interactions, hypovirulence, biological control, epidemiology, and disease management. Recent research projects include identifying the role and potential applications of hypovirulence-associated double-stranded RNA fungal viruses in the ecology and virulence of selected fungal plant pathogens, particularly Sclerotinia spp.; the ecology and epidemiology of selected vegetable and turf diseases; the efficacy of compost amendments for disease management in turf; assessing the current status and recovery of American chestnut, a threatened species, in Canada; the potential nontarget effects of commercial biological control agents; and genetic interactions between Sclerotinia spp. and selected plant hosts.
