The Objective Measure of Ego Identity Status was originally developed in 1979. It has been modified and improved many times over the last 30 years. James Marcia has described the test as the most thoroughly developed self-report measure of the ego identity status paradigm. This self-report assessment of identity formation has now been requested for use in every continent of the world and in over 40 different countries including democratic, socialist, and communist societies. It is a great resource for research and practice.

A commemorative 30-year reference manual has now been released. This manual provides a major summary of the test, its psychometric properties, fundamental theory, and its use in published literature. Those interested in using the measure, can obtain the manual here.
