The Large Spore is Alternaria (20-30 microns) and the two Smaller Spores are Cladosporium (2-4 microns)

Both Alternaria and Cladosporium are allergenic.

Write an essay on Spore Stuff with respect to these two Genera

Consider the Following Pros and Cons

Large    v     Small

Thick-walled    v     thin-walled

Pigmented    v     non-pigmented (= hyaline)

Domestic    v     Feral  (found commonly in homes or outdoors or both!)

Mention other important allergenic Moulds       a) in the home    b) in the work place

What about toxic moulds!

Name some fungi that have toxins in their spores.  Is this a health hazard to humans. Sometimes? Never?

Discuss the pros and cons for each of the  spore characteristics in the following paragraph.  Illustrate your answer with diagrams and named species (if possible)

Question: Spores can be sexual or asexual, large or small, wet or dry, flagellate or not, thick-walled or thin-walled, rough or smooth, pigmented or colourless, septate or nonseptate, for persistence or dispersal, and of variable shape. Based on the preceding sentence, and from your knowledge of the fungi write an essay on the fungus spore. Illustrate you answer with labelled diagrams and name specific examples wherever possible.

Basically this is a question on the biology of the fungus spore and how evolution has modified all of the above characteristics to a specific biological purpose.
