Macrotyphula juncea               Fairy Thread

   The tall, elegant, unbranched fruitbodies are up to 8 cm tall but only a mm or so wide.  They are erect at first but often become bent and twisted. Widespread and locally common, Fairy Thread fruits on leaves in damp spots in deciduous woods. Also known as Clavariadelphus  juncea.
